My passion for force free/reward based dog training began when we brought a German Shepherd puppy home called Carla. I started taking Carla to puppy classes at Barking Mad DTS. Initially she was hard work as she had a very high drive, but through reward based training and trying different approaches we both began to enjoy the learning experience and Carla became a contented and obedient companion and I began my training to become a Dog Instructor.
I completed my Dog Instructor courses in 2008 with highly acclaimed Head Trainer, Richard Clarke MBIPDT in association with BIPDT and Barking Mad Dog Training School. The Advanced Instructor's course involved working with rescue dogs. In 2011, I attended Security Dog Handling course and qualified as an Accredited Dog Handler with the British Institute of Professional Dog Trainers.
I have been an instructor for 6 years working for Barking Mad Dog Training School franchises at Graveley, near Stevenage in Hertfordshire and Broom in Bedfordshire.
I am registered with the Guild of Dog Trainers as an instructor.
Conservation in Vietnam
In 2010 I went to Vietnam with Richard Clarke, Head Trainer at Barking Mad DTS, to train indigenous dogs and handlers to search for endangered Keeled Box Nose Turtles. This was part of a conservation programme and we had a successful three weeks in Cuc Phuong Park.
Here I am pictured with one of the handlers, Vung and his dog Jerry outside Cuc Phuong Park - one of our successful new handlers!
